I felt extremely liberated during these travels…
I felt inspired by the different cultures and scenery...
I felt excited by the unknown events that would unfold throughout each day....
I felt more alive, joyful, and free than I’d felt in years.
Unlike the past half decade…
Where I’d commuted long hours each morning and evening to my prestigious corporate job, worked in an office between the same 4 walls week after week, living in the same city year after year, and going through the same routines day after day.
Although I’d worked so hard my whole life to get good grades, get into a good university, and get this high paying and reputable corporate job in New York City and Los Angeles...
I now felt so disheartened by the monotony of this life.
I no longer felt like my same, vibrant self.
And I realized, as I sat here on the floor, staring at my living room wall…
That I didn’t want to spend the next 40+ years of my life feeling only half alive again, limited by only a few days of vacation each year, while I sat in an office in the same city every day until I reached retirement age..
I dreamed of visiting the famous beaches of Thailand, the magical temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the rice fields of Vietnam, and exotic destinations like Tahiti and Bora Bora ✨
But if I didn’t make a change now.…
With the amount of time it took just to travel to and from each destination…
I’d never get to all of the places that I wanted to see.
With 197 different countries in the world, and limited days off from my job, I’d be lucky to visit even a small fraction of my desired destinations while I was still young enough to enjoy the experience.
So what could I do about it?
Since my company likely wouldn’t let me take another sabbatical...
I thought about saving up enough money to quit my job completely, and spend 6 months backpacking to new places.
I could cut expenses by hopping directly from one country to the next, instead of flying across continents and oceans for just one short trip...
I could stay in hostels, take cheap busses, and make my way through a couple of new countries while living on a limited budget...
But honestly, the thought of staying in run down hostels and spending every bit of money that I’d worked so hard to save…
Didn’t seem very appealing…
And the thought of doing this trip by myself seemed super lonely.
Even if I quit my job to travel for 6 months…
I’d only just begin to scratch the surface of all the destinations that I wanted to explore in the world...
And then, afterward, I’d be right back where I was today…
Sitting on my living room floor every Sunday evening...
Dreading going back to an office every week…
Just to make enough money so that I could quit my job all over again to travel once more...
It felt like an endless cycle 😔
And truth be told, even though I felt desperate to travel again...
I was way too scared to give up my income or to slow the trajectory of my career, all while my peers continued to get promotions and raises.
👉🏽 I felt safe having a steady salary
👉🏽 I wanted to keep progressing in my career
👉🏽 I wanted to keep contributing to my retirement accounts
👉🏽 And I didn’t want to keep burning through my savings in exchange for only a couple months of my life
What if I needed to save enough money to buy a house one day? Or support kids that I might have in the future?
I wanted to keep building my wealth…
All of the responsible adults I knew in my life just sucked it up and went to their jobs each day…
They saved up enough money to get a mortgage and a house...
And they dreaded going to work every Monday morning.
I accepted that my life was destined for this fate as well.
So, after a great deal of deliberation, I gave up my travel dreams and went back to my job...hoping I’d travel the world ‘one day.’
Lucky for me…
Just 6 months later, I received a random email…
Which, unbeknownst to me, would change the course of my life forever.
The email consisted of an amazingly low price for a vacation package on the big island of Hawaii…
So my boyfriend (at the time) and I decided to use FIVE whole, precious vacation days to visit the magical island that we’d heard so much about.
After checking into our flight just a few weeks after booking our plane tickets....
I stopped randomly at a store inside of the airport terminal to purchase some snacks for the long haul (hanger is REAL).
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a catchy title of a book by the cash register 👀
It was ‘The 4 Hour Work Week’ by Tim Ferris.
I wasn’t much of a reader at that time…
But I decided to purchase this book on a whim, as I’d have plenty of free time to pass while on vacation over the next couple of days.
A few days later, as I read this book while hanging in an isolated spot by the ocean (the beach is my happy place)… 📖 🏝️
I learned how the author had set up an entrepreneurial business, outsourced the majority of the tasks, and worked for just a few hours a week from his laptop while he permanently traveled all over the world…
(I happened to take this photo while reading this book on the beach all those years ago. I must have known deep down that this moment would change my life!)
The concept of this book completely blew my mind...
People lived like this?! 🤯
Traveling anywhere in the world while still making an income?!
I had no idea.
This was many years before the concept of “working remotely” or “digital nomads” existed...
But I made a promise to myself right then and there…
That I’d also find a way to work from my laptop while traveling to exotic destinations…
Even though I personally knew exactly ZERO other people in the world who lived this way.
Unfortunately for me, the book explained that the only way to live this life was to start my own business...
So…
I (incorrectly) believed that becoming an entrepreneur, and starting a successful company, was the only way that I could also have the freedom to travel the world while making an income.
What happened next?
I took action…
BUT...
It took me FOUR YEARS, and a whole lot of trial and error, from the moment I read that book to the day that my business was successful enough to book a one way ticket to Bali, Indonesia as a digital nomad.
📉 It took me four years of trying and failing at several different businesses before I felt confident that I could live on my own income while traveling the world
💻 It took tons of trial and error, and accidentally stumbling into my dream career, to figure out the type of work that I really wanted to be doing in life
💍 It took breaking off an engagement from my fiancé to finally have the courage to quit my job and start my own business (the boyfriend that I’d gone to Hawaii with had proposed soon after)
💉 And it took getting a chronic, crippling lower back pain that no doctor could fix, or even diagnose, before realizing that the monotony and limitations of my job & location had begun to manifest itself as physical pain in my body
I was now single and living back at my parents house to save money while I started a business, and was unable to exercise or play the sports I loved due to this chronic back pain.
These were the hardest and most painful years of my life.
But after four long years…a lot of blood, sweat, and tears….many long days and nights…ups and downs...and tons of confusion later…
I now felt confident enough in my business revenue to start traveling the world while working from my laptop, like I’d learned in that book years ago.
Next, I did what many first-time digital nomads do…
I booked a one-way flight to Bali, Indonesia to kick off my journey.

Just a few weeks into this amazing new life, living in and traveling around Southeast Asia while I now worked on a business that I loved…
Not only did my undiagnosable back pain disappear overnight (true story)...
I experienced more joy while traveling and living abroad than I’d ever felt before.
In those first few months, I lived in and visited Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, The Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam….
While meeting hundreds of other digital nomads from so many different countries, who were also pursuing this lifestyle, just like me...
People who not only valued travel and experiences…
But who were also driven, and cared about their careers while they traveled too.
I had finally found my people.
Now, after living as a digital nomad for more than 5 years...
I’ve traveled to over 70 countries while working remotely…and my life is wilder, more passionate, and more exciting than I ever dreamed possible.
In the last couple of years alone, I’ve personally:

🏖️ Saw the famous, beautiful beaches of Thailand
🕌 Visited giant mosques in Oman
🐪 Rode camels through the pyramids of Egypt
🏔️Hiked through the mountains of Bulgaria
🏝️ Lived on a small tropical island in Panama
🍅 Participated in the largest food fight in the world in Spain
✨ Drank ayahuasca with a shaman in Bolivia
🌊 Got my scuba diving certification in Costa Rica
🏰 Wandered among beautiful castles in Hungary
🕍 Explored famous temples in Cambodia
🥊 Learned to box with professional fighters in Mexico
❄️ Trekked through glaciers in Iceland
🚙 Road tripped with friends through the coast of Portugal
🎈Rode in hot air balloons over mystical lands in Myanmar
🐠 Snorkeled in bright blue waters in Honduras
And these aren’t even half of the experiences I’ve had, or countries that I’ve visited, since becoming a digital nomad.
I genuinely feel like I’ve lived 17 amazing lifetimes in the past couple of years alone.
Before I first began traveling, I thought that I was just excited to visit bucket list destinations...
But living life as a digital nomad has brought me so many unexpected benefits & helped me to grow in ways that I never, ever anticipated.
I’ve learned...
💭 To trust my instincts & thrive in uncertain situations...
📍 To navigate any location without speaking the local language, and handle any unknown situation thrown at me…
🌏 To connect with incredible people who come from different backgrounds and locations all over the world…
🎯 To live more fully in the present, and step outside of my comfort zone almost every single day...
💥 And that life can be more f*%^ing amazing than I ever dreamed possible...

🌾 In the photo on the left, you'll find a group of us visiting the magical rice fields Ubud, Bali. We drove 1.5 hours to get to this spot from our home, where we were living on the beach in Canggu, Bali for 6 weeks.
💧In the middle, you'll find a group of us on a weekend trip to Bacalar, Mexico. It may look like we're in a tropical ocean, but this is actually "the lagoon of 7 colors," which scientist believe was made from a crater from the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs (Is it true or not? I'm not sure...but it's beautiful!).
🌋 And on the right, you'll find 30 of us who were living nearby one another in Antigua, Guatemala for 1 month. In this photo, we had driven 1 hour from our home to the base of an active volcano, which we climbed to the top of (we look happy, but it was the hardest hike any of us had ever done...what a weekend!).
